Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin is the principal university in Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic in Russia. It was founded in 1972 and has over 3,500 full-time students and 250 faculty members. During the fall and winter 2007-2008, Syktyvkar State University was selected to host the Associate Regional Office of Undergraduate Studies for Russia of the University of the Arctic. The university has 12 institutes with 154 educational programs in all levels of education.
