Symbiosis is a family of 44 academic institutions, imparting quality education for over 40 years. It is host to over 27,000 Indian and International students on campus and over 1,00,000 students off campus. In 2002, the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India conferred the 'Deemed to be University' status on Symbiosis, and further in 2006 the University Grants Commission, Government of India withdrew the word Deemed and renamed the University as Symbiosis International University.
Inspired by the ideals of 'Vishwa Bharati' of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and 'Antar Bharati' of Sane Guruji and with a deep desire to help foreign students, an idea of 'Symbiosis' was conceived by Dr. S.B. Mujumdar in the year 1971. "Symbiosis", which means 'living together of two different organisms for mutual benefit'. Therefore, the main dictum at Symbiosis is "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World as One Family".
The University offers varied and content rich programmes which are industry specific and has multi-disciplinary approach. These programmes are offered through the constituent institutes of the University which are under the aegis of separate discipline. Our primary objective is to build a better future. In keeping with this, the University offers variety of programs under its seven faculties – Graduate, Post Graduate & Research levels.
Symbiosis International University (SIU) has partnered with International Universities to promote various forms of academic Collaborations. The University has collaborations with Universities in France, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Portugal, USA, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.
