Russia

About the Country- Russia or, also officially known as the Russian Federation, is the largest country in the world. The capital city of Russia is Moscow. Russia ranks ninth among the few most populous countries in the world. Russia offers beautiful places to new visitors and is a picturesque country. Foreigners visiting the country need to have a valid passport and visa.

Location- Russia is located in the Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Russia occupies the area which is extending from Europe (the portion west of the Urals) to the North Pacific Ocean.

Area- Russia is the largest country in the world in terms of territory. Its total area is 17,098,242 square kilometres.

Climate & Weather- Climate varies across the vast country. The two seasons which Russians experience are winter and summer. Winters are extremely severe in the inner regions of Northeast Siberia which are harsh and long. The southern half of the country is warmer. Summers vary from warm in the steppes to cool along Arctic coast. Some Russian cities experience extreme weather. Southern Russia, which is close to seashores, is a favored holiday destination where people travel to get tanned.

Currency- The currency of Russia is called the ruble.

Government- Russia is a federation and semi-presidential republic. The President is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government.

Transportation- Major Russian cities have well-developed and diverse systems of public transport, including the most common varieties of vehicles such as buses, trolleybuses, trams, underground metro, planes, ships, boats, aqua buses etc.

International dialling code and Internet country code-  Dial +7 when making a phone call to Russia. The Internet country code is ”.ru”. Russia also has responsibility for a legacy domain”.su” that was allocated to the Soviet Union and is being phased out.
